Granit Pepnikaj is one of the main names to emerge from the joint investigation of Albanian and Austrian authorities into one of the largest suspected financial fraud schemes uncovered in Albania.

He was declared internationally wanted in May 2026, after the Tirana Court imposed the security measure " prison arrest " on him for suspected criminal offenses of computer fraud and money laundering.

According to investigations by the Tirana Prosecution Office, Pepnikaj is suspected of having been one of the organizers of a network of call centers operating from Albania and targeting citizens of European Union countries.

According to the file, the operators presented themselves as financial advisors and convinced victims to invest in fake stock exchange platforms, cryptocurrencies and other financial products. The alleged economic damage is estimated at over 50 million euros.

The investigation, which lasted about two years, was conducted in cooperation with Austrian authorities and included analyzing banking transactions, communications, and the structure of companies used in the suspected criminal activity.

According to the prosecution, the network operated with a proper organization, with operators trained in foreign languages, use of false identities and sophisticated communication systems.

From the commercial register data, it appears that Pepnikaj was a co-founder and owner of 50% of the shares of the company "Gama Media Communication", created in July 2021 together with Jurgen Mela.

The company suspended operations after about eight months. Investigators are investigating whether it was used as part of the suspected fraud scheme.

Today, after several weeks of searching, Pepnikaj has been arrested by the State Police, giving a new development to one of the largest cases of international call center fraud being investigated in Albania.
