Tirana enters the 24th day of protest

The 24th consecutive protest has begun in Tirana, where protesters have gathered in front of the Prime Minister's Office building.

The demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, considering his removal from office non-negotiable and the establishment of a caretaker government that, according to them, would guarantee free elections.

The protest, which has entered its 24th day, has been characterized by continued participation and strong political messages, focusing on corruption, lack of accountability, and the country's economic conditions.

The day before, the protest organizing group came up with a series of demands addressed to the government that were read by former KLA fighter Dritan Goxhaj.

Specifically, the demands that were read to the protesters were:

1. Non-negotiable resignation of the prime minister and government.

2. The creation of a technical and transitional government, non-partisan and with a 12-month mandate.

3. Constitutional amendments where all Albanian citizens are equal before the law and approval by popular referendum, including:

* amending the Electoral Code;

* amending the law on the financing of political parties and various organizations;

* limiting the exercise of the office of Prime Minister to no more than 2 full or partial terms during an individual's lifetime.

We do not give up on the initial requirements:

* Cancellation of changes made to protected areas.

* Annulment of the changes made to the law on cultural heritage.

* Repeal of the legal package known as the "Mountain Pact".

* Repeal of the status and legal framework for strategic investments.

* A new social contract between citizens and the state, to be drafted after consultation with intellectuals, technical experts, and nonpartisan citizens proposed by the protest square.
