The Milan prosecutor's office has shed light on the initial dynamics of the tragic accident in which local police officer, 39-year-old Francesco Imprezzabile, lost his life during a police pursuit on Monday evening in Peschiera Borromeo.
Italian authorities have arrested a 27-year-old Albanian citizen as the driver of the vehicle that evaded the checkpoint, while initial investigations refute the hypotheses of a deliberate collision.
After finding the SUV abandoned in Pioltello, not far from the scene of the incident, law enforcement managed to locate the people who were in the vehicle during the escape.
The suspected driver, named as B. G, was tracked down on Tuesday in the province of Monza and Brianza and detained along with another person. Police said the suspects were both young Albanian citizens.
The key point of the latest verifications by the investigative group is related to the cause of the fatal fall of officer Imprezzabile from his service motorcycle. According to prosecutors, the fall was not the result of a direct aggressive maneuver by the person being pursued.
"Based on initial investigations, Milan prosecutors have ruled out the hypothesis that the fatal accident was intentionally caused by the SUV that drove the Imprezzabile off the road," ANSA writes .
The officer, who was urgently taken by air ambulance to the Niguarda Hospital in Milan, did not survive his injuries and died on the premises of this hospital. Investigations are ongoing to fully clarify the legal responsibilities of the two detainees.
