Justice Associate, Artan Tafani, in his testimony at the Special Court, has revealed details about the activities of the criminal group led by Laert Haxhiu.

Part of the testimony was also the way he communicated with the gang leader, through an encrypted messaging system called chat-email, for which he paid 600 euros per month.

"We always talked on chat-email, an encrypted system that Laerti himself gave me. We used it only for work, and we filled it up every month in 'Bllok', it cost 600 euros," Tafani declared before the court.

Tafani said that he had first physically met Laert Haxhiu at a meeting in Dajt, organized by other members of the group. He said that he only knew him from television shows and the news, while he had seen his brother before in Lushnja.

"They took me to a restaurant in Dajt, and then we stayed in a suite. It seemed strange to me that they had taken me with them, especially when I saw that Laert Haxhiu himself was there. He told me that they had a job and would help me with some 'goods'. I realized that it was about illegal transportation, more than anything else," Tafani confessed.

He added that in the following days, Laertes and his associates paid him in two installments of 500 euros each. These amounts served as a reward for the work done, but also to test his loyalty and willingness to participate in criminal activities.

He confessed that he received an order to place a quantity of TNT in Lushnje as a form of pressure on a person who had not repaid the debt for goods taken from the group, as well as for a murder ordered for 50 thousand euros.

"In one of the meetings, they told me to set off TNT in Lushnja. The reason was that they had given goods to someone and he had not given the money. They wanted to put pressure on him. I said 'okay', whatever I said... from the first day I had the feeling of pressure, I don't know how to explain it," Tafani said before the court.

He said that on the way to Lushnja, Laert Haxhiu had given him 100 euros for expenses, while he placed the TNT on the door of an apartment on the first floor of a building, near the train tracks.

"I placed 100 grams of TNT. It seemed like a test to see if I could do the job. I lit the fuse and left on foot," said Tafani.

After this action, he returned to his mother-in-law's apartment. But the next task was much more difficult, as it involved a contract killing.

"On another trip, we went to Pogradec, me, Laerti and Ligori. At one point, Laerti called me out and asked me what I knew how to do. I told him that I was into shopping and had once committed a violent robbery, but I didn't believe he wanted me for murder, he himself did these things, I said," Tafani testified.

But the conversation took a different turn. According to him, after a stop in Dardhe, he was offered the opportunity to carry out a contract killing on behalf of the group.

"They told me you would do a job for one of our people in Tepelena. They only mentioned the name of Çajup Selim to me later. I was stunned that night ," said Tafani, adding that the murder order would be carried out by him and Ligori, for a total amount of 50 thousand euros, from which each would benefit from 25 thousand.

" I said: 'Yes, you know'... I felt trapped, everyone was pining for Laertes," Tafani concluded.
