Former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri, sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison, was transferred today from Fier prison to Lushnja prison.
The transfer of Tahir was made after the request of his family members, but news circulated in the media that there was a clash between the former Minister of the Interior and the director of the Fier prison, Arjan Hasani.
One of the disputes that was talked about was the trading of water inside the prison premises. Tahir's lawyer, Maks Haxhia, clarified about these rumors.
"I am not saying twice a week, but once every two weeks, and I have a lot of contact with Saimir Tahiri, who is a very strict enforcer of the law. I don't know that he has a conflict with the director, but he himself asked to go to Lushnja because there are many other convicts there for various criminal offenses and because of the easy access to meet his family. He has not complained to me about strict rules, he has been disciplined and very strict with the rules of the prison", Haxhia stated.
He also added that he will meet the former minister on Monday, but he does not believe that there was a conflict between him and the director of the prison.
"I don't know about the conflict, I let him go on Monday, but I don't believe there is," he said.
Among other things, Haxhia told AbcNews that Tahiri has not made the request for a long time, but he wanted to serve his sentence in Lushnja from the beginning, but he was sent to Fier because the conditions were better there.
"He hasn't been asking for it for a long time, he has been telling me for 10 days, and he even asked to go to Lushnja on the day he was banned. Fier Prison is the newest building," Haxhia said
