During 2022, Albanian citizens received the largest number of residence permits, in the last ten years, in the countries of the European Union.

According to the report of the European Statistics Agency, EUROSTAT, published on Friday, 73,858 residence permits were granted to Albanians from European Union countries in 2022.

According to EUROSTAT, this number of residence permits is significantly higher than other years where 55,085 residence permits were granted to Albanian citizens in 2021 and 38,240 residence permits were granted in 2020.

According to European statistics, around 537,000 Albanian citizens have benefited from legalization in the countries of the European Union in the last ten years (2012-2022).

This high tendency of Albanians to emigrate and work abroad has brought to the Albanian market a lack of labor in many areas.

Italy leads among the countries that issued the most residence permits for Albanian citizens with 34,864 permits issued, followed by Greece with 14,313 residence permits, while a new trend with noticeable growth is Germany, where during 2022, 13,334 Albanian citizens were issued with residence permits out of 4,492 that were equipped throughout 2021.

After these countries for the number of residence permits issued to Albanian citizens, France is ranked with 2455 residence permits and Malta, which marks a new trend of Albanians to be employed with 2009 residence permits for 2022 from the 1142 it had in 2021.

According to European statistics, the largest number of residence permits issued to both Albanian citizens and other foreigners is related to employment.

While the European Union countries issued in 2022 about 3.7 million residence permits for citizens outside the European Union countries, with an increase of 26% compared to 2021, about 1.6 million residence permits were granted for employment"./VOA
