The Supreme Court has overturned the recourse of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri, who demanded his release from prison. Tahiri claims that his life in the cell is endangered, but his release was refused by the Supreme Court.
Saimir Tahiri is currently serving his sentence in Fier prison, after staying for about a week in detention cells 313 in the capital.
After a marathon session, the Special Court sentenced Saimir Tahiri to 5 years in prison for "Abuse of Duty" with the same sentence was sentenced the former director of Vlora police Jaeld Çela. As a result of the shortened trial, their sentence was reduced to 3 years and 4 months in prison and, unlike the previous decision given by the former Serious Crimes Court, Tahiri was suspended from probation but decided to stay in prison.
