The murder of a 16-year-old boy in Gramsh for trivial reasons by a peer was the latest crime that shocked the country.

But the police statistics speak for the seriousness of the situation among minors. In the first four months of the year, 318 minors were identified as perpetrators of various criminal offenses in the capital. While last year their number was 753.

"The biggest trend of events involving minors are conflicts, thefts and narcotics. Mainly, the conflicts that happen during breaks or near schools, start on social networks, in the groups they create. Harassment and leaving dates then leading to fatalities. Bullying is also a worrying problem," says Elidon Shehu, psychologist of the Tirana Police.

Schools, courses or various sports facilities often turn into events with minors as protagonists.

Concrete cases speak for the seriousness of the situation. A few months ago, in a high school in Laprakë, 2 minors were injured with a knife for a comment on Instagram.

Based on the Code of Criminal Justice for minors, the police have a careful approach to minors, not exercising control without reasonable suspicion or when they are called to the police station, they are treated in a special environment by employees without uniform, in the presence of parents and a psychologist .

In this situation, the most important role in the prevention of these crimes is played by the family and the school, which must exercise greater control./ TCH
