The Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, Arlind Gjokutaj, is officially charged. The prosecutor's office has closed the investigations and has communicated the accusation of "abuse of duty". The file will be submitted to the court within 10 days, but the last word on this matter will be said by the black squads.
In the preliminary session, where the fate of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance will be decided, the court can pass the case for trial, can return it for completion of investigations or can dismiss it if it is convinced that there is no evidence to prove the guilt of the 3 doubts.
Along with Gjokutaj, the Legal Director Fatmir Hoxha and the bailiff Alban Ruli were also charged. They are accused of having caused a damage of 1.2 million Euros to the state budget, treating Ilir Thana as the former owner.
It all started after a report by a second-level bank to the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana for an outstanding loan, which revealed the scandal of how Ilir Thana was rewarded twice for a property purchased in 1992, which was returned to the former owner three years later. By court decision, Ilir Thanes returns the money for the purchase of the warehouse at the market price of the time.
The document states that Ilir Thana was expropriated and compensated in 2015 and that Arlind Gjokutaj was informed by employees of the Ministry of Finance. Gjokutaj will be judged in a free state, while Fatmir Hoxha and bailiff Alban Ruli will be under "house arrest".
Through their lawyers, the 3 defendants did not accept the arguments given by the prosecution body.
