The number of drug users in Albania is increasing. According to toxicologists, the easy availability of cocaine on the market has made this type of drug more widely used. A growing phenomenon in our country is the use of cocaine for the first time in the middle ages.

"The incidence of heroin users in our country has been decreasing over the last 4 years, while the incidence of cocaine use among adults and middle-aged people has increased significantly. A 35-year-old doesn't start using it because of societal pressure, it's in his right mind, so it's his personal choice. At most I can say that it is the general trend that leads these older individuals to substance use.” - tells Klan News, Esmeralda Thoma, toskologist.

Hashashi is the drug that is massively used by teenagers.

"According to the type of drug, even the age is different. In fact, teenagers are mostly inclined towards the use of hashish, the earliest age is 10, 11 years. Bullying is the main factor that leads them to use drugs or being a trend, unhealthy family relationships, divorces..." - says Esmeralda Thoma, toxicologist.

The doctor says that compared to the last five years there is an increase of over 8% of drug users in Albania. While synthetic drugs are used more during the summer season by foreigners.

"We don't have special laboratories to be able to investigate which types of synthetic drugs have entered our country, but occasionally we have cases that are mainly imported from abroad, especially during the summer season." - declares Esmeralda Thoma, toskologist

According to the data of associations dealing with the rehabilitation of drug users, their number is over 70 thousand.
