"Albanians are taking drugs!" Experts sound the alarm: Users have

Drug users in our country have increased in recent years! Health experts are concerned about the situation mainly among young people and those over 50 years old. Cocaine is the most used drug!

Once in Albania, heroin was the most used drug, now the trends have changed, cocaine is being used on a large scale.

Doctor and pedagogue Esmeralda Thoma talks about the worrying increase in the number of drug users!

Esmeralda Thoma, doctor, teacher: "In recent years, we have an increase in the number of people who use drugs. But despite the fact that there is an increase, we also have a change in the trend of the type of drugs most used. Of course, hashish is the most used drug among teenagers, mainly of high school age. But we have cocaine as the drug most used by adults over 25 years old".

The causes are different, from bullying at young ages, to family problems and mental health problems at older ages!

Esmeralda Thoma, doctor, lecturer : "As far as teenagers are concerned, there are different reasons. Bullying is actually one of the main factors that force them to start using drugs. Or being a trend, insurance and unhealthy relationships in the family, or problems in the family such as divorces, or an untimely death, as well as mental health problems".     

According to specialists, there is a disturbing situation in the use of drugs among people over 50 years old.

During the weekdays, 1-2 people who are drug users and who seek medical help appear in the emergency room of the Health and Welfare Center, while during the weekend, also due to various holidays, the number of people who seek medical help in the emergency room goes from 5 to 6 people. only in Tirana!/ Hour
