Great Britain has deported to our country 23 Albanians convicted for various criminal offenses with a total of 55 years in prison. According to the announcement of the British authorities, they arrived yesterday at Rinas airport by charter flight.

One of them was arrested in June for drug trafficking. During questioning he said he entered the UK in the back of a lorry in 2021 and then lived there illegally. Another extradited was brought into the UK on board a yacht in 2021. He was also living illegally on the island until he was recently arrested.

Among the others deported was a man sentenced to five and a half years in prison for supplying class A drugs. Another was also sentenced to three years and four months in prison for producing class B drugs.

"These criminals are responsible for horrific drug crimes that destroy lives, families and communities. They have violated our laws and values, leaving their victims to live with the scars of their crimes. The British public should be in no doubt about my determination to remove them by all means available to make our roads safer," said British Home Secretary Priti Patel.

The Home Office said since March last year, more than 10,000 people had been removed from scheduled and charter flights, on 86 flights in total, to 13 different countries.
