The water supply and sewage companies are among the most problematic in terms of their balance sheets, where most of them turn out to be at a loss.

The cases of those who manage to cover operating costs and make investments are rarer than the fingers of one hand. The Water Regulatory Authority estimates that out of 58 enterprises, only two of them cannot be classified as losses.

"The financial results for all UK companies are at a loss, except for UK Tirana and UK Kolonje, which fully cover operating costs and partially capital costs, including those for investments, with income from activity and others.

For the year 2021, out of 58 UK companies, 12 of them generate the necessary income to cover only the operating costs, while all other companies have a part of the operating costs left to be financed from abroad or subsidized, so that not to charge accounts payable every year" assesses the performance report published a few days ago by ERRU.

The same document underlines that during 2021 the central government, through the National Agency of Water, Sewerage and Waste Infrastructure, has distributed 380 million ALL in subsidies, which compared to the previous year have been halved because they were dedicated only to the costs of electricity.

In total, ERRU's official data show that for the year 2021, about 10 billion ALL have been realized from the activities of UK companies, which compared to the previous year have increased by 137 million ALL.

Divided into groups, the Entity reports that for the water supply companies of the 1st Group, the income has increased by 95.8 million ALL.

"The companies that have an increase in income in the first group are UK Fier (+84.4 million ALL), mainly due to the increase in the number of connections, UK Sarande (+53.8 million ALL), due to the increase in the level of billing and the unification of the tariff level for both areas Ksamil and Sarandë and UK Lushnje (+40.1 million ALL), due to the increase in the number of connections and the level of billing" the report states.

The division of water pipes into groups is based on the number of connections. In group I there are enterprises with more than 15 thousand connections, in the second group 3 thousand-15 thousand connections and in the third group under 3 thousand connections./Monitor.al
