The government has set as a condition for obtaining a license for the cultivation of medical cannabis in Albania, 3 years of experience in this field.

But, in Albania, the cultivation of cannabis has been illegal, which means that at least with documentation no one can meet the criterion of experience in the cultivation of this plant.

Although there are no experienced Albanian businessmen inside the country, this does not mean that there are none outside the borders of Albania.

North Macedonia has legalized the cultivation of hashish for medical purposes since 2016. Right after the decision, a relatively high number of Albanian businessmen opened companies to obtain licenses.

Some have done it directly, others through satellite companies that have opened in Skopje. Until 2018, the Macedonian authorities granted over 40 licenses, where according to the local media, at least half of them have Albanian citizens as their ultimate owners.

These are the businessmen who meet the experience criteria, who are expected to be the first to apply for licenses with the Albanian government and likely to move all business from North Macedonia to Albania, where the climate makes hashish cultivation more profitable. .
