INSTAT has categorically denied that the Census documents were affected by a February 1 cyber attack by the self-proclaimed Iranian group, Homeland Justice, but the online data was not only affected, but could be released very soon.

Three sources have stated this to the "Albanian Post", where a comparison is even made with a leak of information on the scale of the major cyber attack that occurred in the summer of 2022, on July 15, in Albania, which eventually led to the cessation of reports diplomatic relations with Iran.

One of the sources familiar with the situation has affirmed on the condition of anonymity that INSTAT is trying to hide the true scale of the attack. Also, another source has confirmed that the Census documentation has been completely affected.

According to the cluster alone, the size of the received data is in the size of 100 terabytes. To simplify, the equivalent of 100 thousand gigabytes. An incredible amount of information, considering that most of the documents that INSTAT processes are about numbers and such files do not take up much memory space.

One of the sources also explained that the Census documents may have been distorted.

While, another, articulated that the hackers themselves will start publishing the data within a few days.

It all comes in the conditions when Censi has been brought to attention firstly for the continuous postponements it has had and then also for news circulated in the media, which claim that the real number of Albanians, who live and are resident in the territory, is shrunk a lot.

The very fact that INSTAT, after the attack, has again postponed the publication date of the Census, raises deep doubts that the problem of the February 1 hacking is much bigger than that claimed by the institution itself, with the immediate reaction it had.
