The next court hearing for former FBI agent Charles McGonigal was held in New York, accused of helping a sanctioned Russian oligarchy launder money and receiving an undisclosed amount of money from a former Albanian intelligence agent.
McGonigal's lawyer said prosecutors are discussing the possibility that the former New York counterintelligence chief partially pleads innocence for the charges brought against him in two different trials, in Washington, DC and New York.
Judge Jennifer Reardon of the case in New York was informed that the parties are discussing the possibility of reaching an agreement, and has issued a procedure for agreement over the next week.
As for the Albanian case, Seth DuCharme's lawyer for McGonigal said there is "a good chance that this case will be resolved unnecessarily to go to trial, but that should be expected until early September.
McGonigal is accused of hiding $225,000 taken from former Albanian intelligence agent Agron Neza.
