The repentant justice minister Artan Tafani has revealed for the first time before the Criminal Court how he was involved in the plan to murder Çajup Selimi in Tepelena, a crime that he describes as part of an organized network where everything was commanded by Laert Haxhiu.
According to the testimony, the murder was presented as an "honor" for a friend of Haxhiu from Greece.
But then, Tafani revealed that the reason for Çajup Selimi's murder was that he had had a fight with Erisian Abedini, while noting that "Laert Haxhiu's business was killing people."
Artan Tafani: Bledari was Laerti's friend, he loved him like his own brother. We went to these guys' house, we met many times. We went to a bar in a village, they had brought a couple of friends who sang, a couple of girls, Berberi, Romaçka, me, Lubja, a guy with "X5", I don't remember. We had food, drinks, music.
Let's go outside for a bit, Laertes says. He says, "Are you going to do any work?" I say, "You know what you do!" I say, "I stole, I got carried away, I didn't do anything big." What are you going to do?" he says, "I don't think he wants me for those jobs." I had it in the context of killing people, where I knew what he wanted me for, being a driver, going up and down. Don't say that, he says, we all need each other." He grabbed me by the neck, like that, and we went inside. That dinner ended, we each went our own way. With Ligor and Laertes, we went back to the hotel in Dardhe. I was on the second floor, Ligor below me, like those children's beds, Laertes in the double bed.
Laertes tells me, shall we do a job? That's where the conversation about the murder of Çajup Selim, in Tepelena, opens. I didn't expect it, from the first moment I was under pressure, he pulled me into a corner, I don't know how he managed it. We barely made a sound when he spoke, they stood in front of him. Will you do it to me, he says? He didn't tell me his name that night. I learned his name after the job was done. You'll honor one of our men, he says. I was stunned. I would do it, Ligori would help me, he told me what you have, you have me from behind. I admit it, you know, I said, I thought about it in my mind the moment I left there. He wanted a "yes". I was always in terror, fear. That night ends, the next day, we leave for Lushnje. That night Laerti told me we'll do it as an honor, give us 50 thousand euros, I'll be 25, Ligori 25. I was in Vlora with him, with the Kalamajte family in a rented car. Lulzimi picked me up, I was returning to Fier from Vlora. He said hurry up to Lushnje. I'll meet him in Lushnje. We hurry up, he says a friend is waiting for us, why did he want us in Elbasan. I go myself and tell him if necessary, what will you do. I've gone to that place three times, twice the guys have taken me. I learned his name on the news after the job was done. Laerti told me that the job would be done in Tepelena. Laerti's girlfriend came with all her friends, I would go with Ligori the next morning. We would take the goshawk car so that Ligori could tell me where he was, who he was, and how he was. They told me at the last moment. I knew we were going on vacation, we would end up in murder. The honor would be given to Laertes' friend who lived in Greece. The victim had a shop. Ligori tells me from afar that this is it. We went to the house, from afar he showed me the road and the house of Çajup Selim. We returned to Saranda, we meet Laertes, the girls take the car.
After I went to the building, I was standing next to the entrance and I heard a car, like a Benz, like the one he had. I was face to face with him, I had a COVID mask and a hat. He was looking at me and there was a suspicion. He entered the entrance of the building, went up to the first floor, then to the second. I was behind him. He was a scoundrel and I also recognized the clothes he was wearing that day – he had a red T-shirt. That's where I shot him from behind. I shot him three times – once in the shoulder and twice more, but I don't know exactly where the bullets hit him.
I ran towards the area of the Bënça Prison. I fell into some brambles outside the city. I had my gun with me – a “Zastava” or a small “Bereta”, with a silencer. I couldn’t find the path to get out according to plan. I had to get out to the Vjosa River, where Ligori would be waiting for me.
I met Ligori after 1-2 hours at Erisian's uncle's house. According to the plan we had made with Laerti, Erisian's uncle (Abedini) would be waiting for us. Ligori had turned off his cell phone, while I hid behind a rock - I was scared. Police cars were patrolling the area. It was the first time for me.
Ligor came to the house and then, torn from his hands, as it seemed he had also fallen into the thorns. Laertes was angry with Ligor. He said to me: "How did he leave you alone, I will tell him."
After the event, they got into a random car, it was a van. We left for Tirana and during this time we talked to Laerti. Without going to Lushnje, Laerti told me, tell Ligor to run to Korça, so that we would be separated from each other. Ligor got on another bus. I got off at the Delux hotel near the Palace of Arrows. Laerti was there. Laerti shouted at me why I called my uncle, why I didn't call him on WhatsApp. He insulted me and cursed me. If I made one mistake, he would immediately "let his tongue out".
For the murder, I received 25 thousand euros a week later. But Ligori did not receive it, because Laerti did not give it to him. Ligori called Laerti and told him that Klisman Xhaferri had spoken on his cell phone with someone about a "good" job. We were at the hotel and, as soon as he heard this, Laerti told us: "Get up, we are going to Korça to kill him."
We stayed at Erisiano's uncle's apartment for two hours. The uncle and his wife knew about Çajup's murder. They were aware. The uncle asked me when I went to the apartment, he was happy that Çajup Selimi was dead. Then he was curious to see what kind of weapon it was. Until that moment, we hadn't had any conversation about the reason for the murder. Then I found out from Laertes that the reason for the murder was that Erisiano had had conflicts with him. They had been hit with hard objects before because of a family issue between his mother and him, something like that. Laertes mentioned these conversations.
They had a fight, Çajup had harassed Erisiano's mother. This was the reason why Çajup Selimi was killed.
After the murder of Çajup, I went to Greece, I met Mario Diamanti, Laert Haxhina and Xhino Bajrami, they were friends. They lived in a villa in Greece. Mario Diamanti was friends with Erisiano. Laert killed people, he had a business doing this.
