Conflict between businessmen in Vlora/DP, accusations against Rama:
Gazment Bardhi

The head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, has reacted after Prime Minister Edi Rama's statement that they will expropriate the area that caused the clash between two businessmen in Vlora.

In a reaction on social media, Bardhi says that "the prime minister wants to close the scandal as soon as possible because it stems from the firm itself and its decision-making."

Bardhi claims that the conflict stems from the overlapping of properties and permits issued with Rama's own signature, demanding that SPAK investigate the case for abuse of power and not remain silent on this issue.

According to him, the decision to expropriate investors does not punish them, but guarantees them compensation of millions of euros from citizens' taxes.

Reaction of the chairman of the DP parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi:

The Prime Minister's decision to expropriate the two investors who clashed with gunmen in Orikum does not punish the two violent individuals for ruining Albania's tourist image. On the contrary, it ensures that the scandal, which has its roots in the decision-making and signature of Edi Rama himself, is quickly closed and, at the same time, guarantees the two businessmen compensation of millions of euros.

Edi Rama tries to present it as a banal story, but at its core lies the ownership conflict and the overlapping of properties for two projects where Edi Rama himself has placed the signature.

One of the businessmen, Edi Rama, has declared a strategic investor, has made over 200 thousand m² of public land available for construction and has given the coast for use for 99 years. The other has been granted permission for a similar project. The question is: how are development rights granted on properties that are overlapping with Edi Rama's signature? Why didn't he reveal what Edi Rama tells us he discovered now, after the weapons were drawn, when he signed the status of strategic investor and made valuable public assets available?

The Democratic Party has opposed this model, which reeks of corruption, for several years. Together with the citizens in protest and in accordance with the demands of the European Union, we have officially requested that the law on strategic investments be repealed.

Instead of revoking its strategic investor status, repealing its corrupt law, canceling the permits on the conflicting property, and prosecuting those who may have falsified ownership documents, Edi Rama chooses to impose a multimillion-dollar fine on Albanians to compensate problematic businessmen who were empowered during his rule.

Because expropriation means compensation with public money. Businessmen in conflict will be paid with money collected from Albanian taxes. According to Edi Rama's decision, we will all pay millions of euros to close a conflict that he and the institutions he leads had the obligation to prevent before the strategic investor status and construction permits were signed.

The true public interest, not that of the "olive garden", requires that the justice institutions act to establish criminal responsibility for this scandal. It is very clear that, at a minimum, Edi Rama fulfills the elements of abuse of office and the investigation should start from his signature for the strategic investor to today's unjustified stance on expropriation.

It is good that SPAK is not silent. This is neither a banal quarrel, nor a matter of civic ethics or the image of tourism. It should be investigated whether the Prime Minister is trying to close with as little noise as possible and with many millions of Albanian euros a problem created with his signature and will.
