The Archbishop of Albania, Anastasios, is in intensive care at the Evangelismos hospital, where doctors are making every effort to stabilize his health. According to the latest medical report, the condition of the 95-year-old hierarch has seriously deteriorated, Greek media report.
"Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos visited the Evangelismos hospital yesterday to be informed by Professor of Pulmonology and Intensive Care, Anastasia Kotanidou, about the progress of his health. This morning, Minister of Education and Religious Affairs Kyriakos Pierrakakis was also at the hospital," Greek media report.
The Archbishop's stay at "Evangelismos" began on January 3, after he was transported by plane from Tirana.
The hierarch was initially admitted to a hospital in the Albanian capital on December 30 due to a fever that was bothering him, but suffered a serious deterioration when he suffered gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
His transfer to Greece was carried out on an Air Force plane.
According to the medical statement the day before yesterday, despite his complicated medical history, his condition was considered stable and was being closely monitored by Ms. Kotanidou's team.
However, the new deterioration has caused great concern.
