Hospitals in China are overcrowded due to an outbreak of the human metapneumovirus ( HMPV ) virus, which causes respiratory problems.
This outbreak has raised concerns worldwide, as the spread of HMPV is compared to the initial outbreak of COVID-19.
In an interview, epidemiologist Ilir Alimehmeti emphasized that the chances of this virus turning into a pandemic are very low.
He also added that the virus has been among us for years and most people have had it at least once. But the cause of its spread in China has a specific reason.
" It's not a new virus, but it was identified in the Netherlands in 2001. It's been around before. In human studies, that means it's been around for years."
But why did it happen in China? To wash away those "tributes" of three years of closure. They remained isolated and stopped all viruses, by closing down. This virus has been here. We have all been through it once. It simply does not give full immunity, which means that after two years you can be infected again. But China, being closed, has not been affected.
"This virus has a very low chance of causing a pandemic. The flu has a chance of turning into a pandemic, but not this virus ," the doctor said.
