Unidentified persons have created fake email addresses and used them to send threatening emails to citizens in the name of the Director General of the State Police, Ilir Proda.
The email informs people that they have been placed under investigation by the state for cybercrimes or drug offenses and asks them to report to the police within 24 hours.
The State Police reacted immediately by announcing the case in question and clarifying to the public that the authorities never send official notifications via email and that no police structure asks citizens to appear at the police station without an official signed summons.
"State Police"
We inform citizens that recently, several cases have been identified of unidentified citizens who have created a fake electronic address (email), with the credentials of the General Director of the State Police, and through it, have presented themselves as a structure for the Investigation of Cybercrimes.
With this address, citizens were sent threatening electronic messages, informing them that they were under investigation for cybercrimes or criminal offenses in the field of narcotics, and asking them to report to the police within 24 hours.
We inform you that the emails are fake and have no connection to the State Police or any of its official structures.
Citizens should keep in mind:
• The State Police never sends official notifications of investigations via email.
• No police structure requires citizens to report to the police without an official, signed and documented summons.
• The purpose of these messages is to deceive and spread fear among citizens.
The State Police calls on citizens not to respond to or distribute emails with such content.
"We also inform you that the case is under investigation by the Cyber Crimes Investigation Directorate, with the aim of identifying and punishing the perpetrators of this criminal activity," the State Police announced.
