The Italian military ship with the first refugees has approached the shores of Shengjin.
She is en route to port and expected to arrive around 8:00 AM.
The first contingent of immigrants that Italy sent to Shengjin is made up of 16 people. They are all men of Egyptian and Bangladeshi origin. They will be placed in the center of Gjadri, where a detention center has also been set up and a contingent of Italian officers and policemen has been assigned for storage, care and procedures.
"Reuters" describes the agreement on immigrants as controversial, but emphasizes that it is the first and only one between an EU member country and a non-member country in the union.
This agreement has also been appreciated by internationals, such as the EC chief commissioner, Ursula von der Leyen, who emphasized that the Rama-Meloni agreement for Italy-Albania immigrants can be used as an example by the EU.
