New details have been revealed from the operation underway in Greece to crack down on an Albanian-Greek criminal group.

The criminal gang was discovered by the Greek police thanks to the analysis of messages of gang members who communicated with each other using the Sky ECC and Encrochat applications.

According to Greek media, the head of the criminal group is Albanian Edmond Përbashaj, imprisoned in Diavata prison, sentenced to 20 years in prison for armed robbery.

Përbašaj, known by the nickname Mondi, was transferred to Diavata from Stavrakiou prison in Ioannina, after it was discovered in early July that he was collaborating with foreign individuals and prison officials to distribute narcotics and then smuggle money into the prison.

During the operation, some prisoners set fire to mattresses in their cells.

In one of the conversations revealed by Greek media in July, Përbashaj spoke to the Deputy Director of the Prison, informing him that he was expecting the trafficking of 100 kg of cocaine.
