An unheard of story happened in Kukës, where a 57-year-old man, Xhevit Sopaj, forged documents 21 years ago to register the identity of a minor child who did not exist as his daughter, while in 2021 he forged documents for them again pronounced this child dead.

From the investigative actions, it appears that the 57-year-old, already in handcuffs, committed this criminal activity in order to benefit from a higher pension, based on the law of the time.

A doctor and the administrator of a funeral agency have also been criminally prosecuted for suspicion of abuse of office.

Police notification:

Specialists of the Economic and Financial Crime Investigation Section of DVP Kukës have provided information on a case of falsification of documents, for the purpose of profit, and on this basis have initiated a criminal proceeding at the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the General Jurisdiction of Kukës , for the complete documentation of this case, as well as for the arrest of the responsible citizens.

As a result of several months of investigations, with proactive methods, carried out in cooperation with the Kukes Prosecutor's Office, the coded police operation "Registry" was organized and finalized, as a result of which:

- the citizen Xh. was arrested. S., 57 years old, resident in Kukës, for the criminal offenses "Fraud" and "Forgery of stamps and forms";

- the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office, where the proceedings began in free status, for the criminal offense "Abuse of duty", for citizens AE, a doctor by profession, and AE, administrator of a funeral agency.

From the evidence provided, it is suspected that in order to benefit from a higher pension based on the law of the time, citizen Xh. S. forged documents, 21 years ago, and registered in his family tree (as his daughter), the identity of a minor citizen who did not exist. Also, in 2021, the 57-year-old falsified the death certificate of this citizen, with the aim of deregistration from the Civil Registry.

For citizens AE and AE, the investigations continue, with the aim of examining whether or not these citizens were implicated in the issuance of false documents used by citizen Xh. S.
