A hearing has been held in Belgium for Sani "Shade" Al Murdaa and Ermir "Cinco" Ndreaj, two leading figures of the Balkan mafia in Antwerp, where the public prosecution has requested the maximum sentence for them.

According to Belgian media, their criminal organization has shipped tons of cocaine into the country.

"Unfortunately, I can only ask for twenty years in prison, but for these criminals I would have preferred to ask for 100 years," said federal prosecutor Cappelle.

Among the people seeking a 20-year prison sentence is Ermir Ndreaj, who was arrested in Tirana during July.

Sani Al Murdaa, a Bosnian from Antwerp and leader of the Balkan mafia, is said to be one of the most important traffickers in Belgium.

He runs a criminal network that stretches from Colombia to Australia.

Every morning he wakes up, drinks his coffee, plays with the kids a bit, and then manages the drug lines until late at night. His network is everywhere, but his whereabouts remain unknown to the police.

Antwerp, Turkey, Pakistan – the police have lost track of him. It's not for nothing that his nickname is "Shade" (Shadow).

In the Kookwas file, Al Murdaa is the main leader who makes all the important decisions. In late 2020, he decided to experiment with cocaine purification laboratories.

The hope was to smuggle cocaine invisibly into Europe, mixed into legitimate cargoes such as pigment, cement, iron oxide or even barrels of ton.

In these laboratories, including one near Charloan, it was hoped to recover cocaine by chemically treating the shipments.

To this end, Al Murdaa brought Colombian cocaine to Belgium and the Netherlands. He invested millions in building these laboratories, but after many failures, he decided to abandon them, considering them not profitable enough and too problematic.

The federal judicial police of East Flanders (Dendermonde) targeted the Al Murdaa organization at the end of 2020, after several trucks with drug waste, including barrels of chemicals from cleaning laboratories, were discovered in the Netherlands.

Investigators discover that the organization receives help from several construction businessmen, who help the gangster not only with the import of drugs, but also to get rid of chemical waste as easily as possible.

Several barrels are loaded onto a ship bound for Africa, while a corrupt subcontractor secretly dumps the waste into a concrete batching plant belonging to an international construction company.

"This company works for Oosterweel. So there is a possibility that you could drive over the poison of cocaine laboratories with your car," the prosecution warns.

Sani Al Murdaa relies on two other high-ranking criminals: Albanian Ermir Ndreaj (Cinco), his right-hand man, and Yassine M. (Teentje), a Moroccan with a powerful network in the port.

This trio then relies on Ronald VM, a kind of logistics manager turned criminal investor. Between 2020 and 2022, the group was not only busy with cocaine purification laboratories, but also with the import of drugs through fruit companies in the port of Antwerp.

Federal prosecutor Marianne Cappelle raised eyebrows when she announced the sentencing requests: " The maximum sentences I can ask for are very low. I can't ask for more than twenty years in prison, whereas in fact I would like to ask for a hundred years for this type of criminal ."

Requests for penalties:

Sani Al Murdaa – 15 years (no previous convictions)

Ermir Ndreaj (Cinco) – 20 years (with criminal record)

Yassine M. – 15 years

Ronald VM – 18 years

Bert VG (builder) – 7 years

The Kookwas process will continue in the coming days./ NIEWSBLAD
