Figures, debates, committees, statistics, clashes between the judiciary and the executive.

A battle that has become fiercer in recent months, when the people of the system themselves felt their direct interest was being violated: salaries!

Justice requires independence, and when it comes to the dignity of salaries, they accuse the executive of intending to violate this fundamental principle.

However, in this fierce battle between the two powers, there is an important factor that has been forgotten by both sides. The most important…

People!

The ordinary people of this country have been crawling to the doors of the courts for years now to get justice. In the glamour of extraordinary conferences, big promises and millionaire salaries that they want to receive, or want to prevent, the backs of Albanians have become a chessboard to move the pieces of the protagonists of these battles.

"I want the case to come as soon as possible, because I can't take it anymore. Let it come to me as soon as possible, I can't live anymore, I'm living in vain!" , said the complainant Marie Shabani.

Marie Shabani is a clear example of the failure of a system that holds the public interest hostage, but when it comes to its own interests, spares nothing!

The woman who denounced, in the early 2010s, bought two entrances to Tirana. The family savings from working as immigrants in Greece, they decided to invest in their homeland, with the desire that their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would then build a future in their own country. Unfortunately, Maria fell victim to a painful wound in Albania.

"In July 2012, I received two entrances for the children in Tirana. I paid the money by bank transfer. When the girl and her aunt arrived, we had the keys from the builder. The door wouldn't open. It shouldn't have been written on the door that whoever enters this house will be washed in blood ," said Marie Shabani.

The houses she had bought had been sold twice by the builder. Despite having started doing additional work, the person who had bought them a second time had changed the locks and started living in those entrances.

"In circumstances where agreement was not reached between the two purchasing families in the usual manner, the Shabani family was forced to pursue the matter by taking it to court ," said lawyer Gentian Rumano.

And in fact, that's what Maria did, supported by her family, in the hope that she would receive justice and enjoy the properties she had sacrificed her entire life to buy.

But what was the result?

“Duan ta lidhin pagën e tyre me shpenzimet gjyqësore.

"We have been in the Court of Appeal for 3 years. We have been waiting for our turn for the last 3 years. What happened to this turn?" said Marie Shabani.

Being an issue that is expected to be reviewed as early as 2023, if the order returns to normal, Maria will have to wait a few more years. But, for an elderly person, years are very expensive.

"The judges are not to blame, because they have many files, but seeing my sister's misfortune, we want them to help us, always in the right. To review the case, because it's been 3 years. Now set for September, 3 years. To bring the retrial date closer to us," the complainant said.

"Cases and court cases should not be turned into inheritances, because they are delayed by 10-12-15 years,"  said Rumano.

"Losing my 40-year-old son is not easy for me. I live in vain, you know, like my children. I live in vain! I live for my son's daughter and for that granddaughter that I have with a bad illness, because nothing in this life warms me anymore," said Marie Shabani.
