Isa Aliu, brother of Salvatore (Shpëtim) Aliu, who is suspected of laundering the money of the drug 'godfather'

Salvatore alias Shpëtim Aliu, wanted by SPAK and considered one of the key figures in cocaine trafficking, was arrested today in Russia, with the aim of extradition to Albania.

In June 2026, the Special Court Against Corruption and Organized Crime assigned Ali the security measure "Arrest in prison", for the criminal offenses "Drug trafficking", "Laundering of the proceeds of crime or criminal activity", "Structured criminal group" and "Commitment of criminal offenses by a criminal organization and a structured criminal group".

Salvatore Aliu, considered the godfather of Albanian drug trafficking groups, is suspected of having laundered at least 30 million euros in Albania, obtained from criminal activities.

The key figure appears to have been his brother, Isa Aliu, who officially has 4 different companies used for investments in the purchase of real estate, villas, apartments, land, or even in the construction of hotels in tourist areas of the country.

Salvatore, like other leaders of criminal groups, used the SKY platform for his communications, where he was known by various names such as Daja, Qero, Qerosi, Viktor, or Albo Pelon.

From the disclosure of these communications, in a conversation in August 2020 with his brother Isa Aliu, the latter announced that he had 6 million euros in cash.

Two weeks later, Salvatore informs Isai that he will receive another 20 million euros. While waiting for the money to be invested to be cleaned, he instructs his brother on how to hide the money, suggesting, among other things, putting it in a 50-liter barrel and then burying it.

The investigation that led to the discovery and identification of Salvatore Aliu began in May 2020. He and people with family connections are suspected of being involved in the international trafficking of cocaine from Ecuador to European countries.

In the network that also included foreigners, Salvatore has been identified as having played the role of leader, overseeing every link in the trafficking, from securing cocaine, to financing shipments and supplying other groups.

The 50-year-old from Elbasan can be considered the Albanian "boss of bosses" of drug trafficking, the most powerful person in international narcotics trafficking ever investigated by the Albanian prosecution, a character behind whom many law enforcement agencies in Europe were put.

Other well-known names, from Çopjat to Eldi Dizdari, Dritan Gjika or Armando Pacani, were under his influence.

The SPAK investigative file also links his name to Jetmir Pepa's group.

Salvatore alias Shpëtim Aliu appears as the "Uncle" of Ecuador, the major supplier of Albanian groups, the organizer of the shipments and the man who, through family and criminal connections, is suspected of building one of the most powerful Albanian drug trafficking schemes of recent years.

SPAK investigations have documented the network's activity for the years 2019-2021, during which it is suspected that it managed to smuggle 50 tons of cocaine into Europe, while 5 episodes of cocaine trafficking in large quantities have been proven, when it was possible to seize almost 9 tons.
