The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece has reacted after the decision of the Special Court, which left the newly elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, under the measure of "prison arrest", who is accused of buying and selling votes.

According to the Greek ministry, the extension of Beleri's detention offends the public's sense of justice and the European perception of the rule of law.

This statement of the Foreign Ministry of Greece comes after a meeting that the Foreign Minister of Albania held in Brussels with her Greek counterpart Niko Dendias.

In her reaction, Xhaçka said that she made it clear to the Greek Foreign Minister that "Beleri" is a court case that should not affect bilateral relations between Albania and Greece. According to her, Fredi Beleri enjoys the same rights as any other Albanian citizen and no Albanian citizen is above the law.
