Meta's lawyer wants Edi Rama and 150 other witnesses in court

The lawyer for the leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, stated that the defense has presented new evidence in the process taking place at the GJKKO, claiming that Prime Minister Edi Rama should be summoned as a person aware of several episodes related to the case.

After the end of the court session, lawyer Kujtim Cakrani stated that the defense failed to present all the requests and evidence it had planned, including an extensive list of witnesses who, according to him, could help shed light on the circumstances of the case.

"We were unable to present our requests and present evidence with witnesses to the court. This evidence, if accepted, will be very important for the process," Cakrani declared.

According to him, the defense intends to present a list of around 150 people who are considered to be knowledgeable persons, while at the top of this list, according to the lawyer, is Prime Minister Rama.

"The list starts with Prime Minister Edi Rama. We will present to the court film materials that, in our opinion, show why he is a key person who should speak out on this issue. This will give the court and the prosecution a broader perspective," he said.

Cakrani also criticized the court's decision not to allow the media to film the hearing, calling the lack of transparency problematic for the public interest.

"It's a shame that the court didn't allow the media to film. The public should be familiar with what happens in the courtroom," the lawyer said.

The trial against Ilir Meta continues in the Special Court, while it remains to be seen whether the court will accept the defense's requests for the administration of new evidence and the calling of proposed witnesses.
