Lawyer's arrest deepens scandal: Elbasan prosecutor releases cut audio to
Ulian Barjami

On Saturday evening, the arrest of lawyer Ulian Barjami was reported , following a verbal altercation that occurred during a court session in Tirana.

According to information, the incident occurred during the review of the security measure for his client, Maksim Lika (known as "Suci"), recently arrested as part of a police operation in Elbasan.

Lawyer Barjami declared in the courtroom that he would file a criminal complaint against the prosecutor and judicial police officers, as according to him, he had ascertained "manipulation of evidence" against his client.

This moment seems to have caused tension in the hall.

In a video published by lawyer Arben Llangozi, prosecutor Gjergji Ceka is heard reacting harshly, saying: "The lawyer should be arrested."

Then Judge Megi Strakosha intervened , who warned the lawyer about the language used in the courtroom.

"It doesn't work with threats in the courtroom. Focus on defending your client, otherwise I will assign another lawyer," Judge Strakosha is heard saying in the released audio recording.

According to the Albanian Bar Association, which reacted immediately after the arrest, lawyer Barjami's statements did not constitute a threat, but an expression of the legal right to file a criminal report.

"The lawyer, after noting a discrepancy between the video evidence and the minutes presented by the prosecutor, declared that he would file a report for falsification of evidence. The reaction of prosecutor Ceka, who said 'you will be arrested', and the immediate intervention of the judge, are unjustified in a fair judicial process," the Chamber of Advocates' response states.

The event has sparked debate in public opinion and among the legal community, while the Chamber of Advocates has warned of pursuing the case through institutional channels.

The Elbasan Prosecutor's Office itself had distributed a cut audio to the media, while the full audio published by lawyer Aarben Llangozi shows that there is no threat.
