Confindustria has expressed concern about the strong increase in the price of fuel, immediately after the local elections on May 14.

Through a press statement, Konfindustria notes that immediately in the first week after the elections, it increased the ceiling price of oil by 6 lek/liter and thus Albania returns to the highest prices in the region and comparatively among the most expensive on the continent.

Confindustria assesses that the successive decisions of the Transparency Board in the pre- and post-election period regarding fuel prices create reasonable suspicions that they are not only against the public interest, but also used for political purposes.

Statement :

" Konfindustria expresses concern about the strong and immediate increase in fuel prices immediately after the 2023 local elections.

The Transparency Board, immediately in the first week after the elections, increased the ceiling price of diesel by 6 Lek/liter. Today, in the minority points, oil is sold for up to 179 ALL/liter. Albania returns again to the highest prices in the region and comparatively among the most expensive in the continent.

The significantly increased fuel prices in the Albanian market do not go in the same direction as the prices of the countries of the region. For example, in Macedonia, the price of the "diesel" product expressed in Lek is lower than 125 Lek/liter. If the comparison will be made, including the fiscal change, the price of "diesel" in the Albanian market is 15-20 lek per liter more expensive.
