The Media Commission will officially ask the Steering Council to stop the process for electing the general director of RTSH. This move by the Media Commission comes after accusations of illegality of the process, after the Steering Council decided on Monday by majority vote to disqualify 3 out of 5 candidates on the grounds that they do not meet the criteria.
As is rare, the opposition and the majority are in line and demand an open and transparent competition. The Socialist Party guarantees that it will be committed to taking every step guaranteed by the law to guarantee a fair competition.
On the other hand, the chairwoman of the Commission, Ina Zhupa, says that if they do not agree to interrupt the process, the DP will demand the dismissal of the members.
Khushi: We have nothing to do with the names, we have everything to do with the steps, it should be an open, transparent, meritocratic competition, we will send them a letter as you requested to stop the process and inform us what is happening, that they have the right to defend their work if they are doing the right thing as they claim, today or tomorrow, because they have announced hearings on Friday for the 2 candidates they have chosen.
Zhupa: We agree, to include in the letter the fact that this obligation we give to interrupt the process, if they do not implement it, we, the opposition party (will demand their dismissal from the steering council). Let's decide that if they do not implement this request of the commission, we will be forced to continue with the parliamentary procedure of the members of the steering council
The 5 who represent the parliamentary minority in the steering council, we are ready to dismiss, and ask the assembly to appoint others in accordance with the law, because the idea has been created in the steering council that they have nothing to do since they elected us, that they will not agree with each other, SP-PD, and they think that they are the de facto owners of RTSH. I express my will on behalf of the DP group that if they do not stop the process, we will begin the procedures for the dismissal procedures on Monday
Khushi: We are ready to take every step the law allows us to guarantee open competition
Zhupa: This is not a threat, it is a warning as every person who supervises another institution does, to warn them as the law requires so that they don't dismiss us in a flash. Every violation of the law has a consequence.
Koçi : The Council cannot violate the criteria, it can be selected from the platforms, but to prohibit in advance is illegal. The issue of conflict of interest must be carefully considered, we have heard in this hall how they were asked to benefit from projects on Radio Television.
Zhupa: After we resolve the impasse in this process, if they are still in office, each one should undergo a conflict of interest scan. We cannot turn the Steering Council into a baklava with one hand and a rennet with the other," said the members of the Media Commission.
