The Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, has commented on the recent actions of the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH), carried out without the involvement of the State Police, emphasizing that the law gives the BKH the right to implement security measures.
In an interview with Report TV, Lamallari stated that the State Police continues to be appreciated by international partners for its cooperation and results in the fight against crime.
"The State Police is appreciated by EUROPOL and EUROJUST. The cooperation they have with the Albanian authorities, including the State Police, was appreciated, which from year to year demonstrates increased proactivity in operations coordinated by Europol. Regarding cooperation with SPAK, our goal is to strengthen it, as it is a legal obligation," said Lamallari.
Asked whether the fact that BKH is carrying out arrests without the State Police is related to a lack of trust on the part of SPAK, the minister denied such an interpretation.
"As long as the law provides, since the justice reform, that BKH officers not only have the attributes of the judicial police, but also implement security measures, I see this as implementation of the law and of what we conceived when we approved the justice reform."
He added that the implementation of security measures is a legal obligation for both judicial police officers and the State Police, whenever a measure is delegated to them by the prosecutor of the case.
