Barcelona and Inter produced a spectacular match full of emotions at Camp Nou. Six goals and a 3-3 draw, a result that Simone Inzaghi's Italian side enjoyed more than anything, enough to beat Viktoria Plzen in Milan to qualify for the top 16 of the Champions League.
The Catalan team need a miracle to advance further in the most important tournament for clubs, as coach Xavi commented on the draw against runners-up Italy:
"A match with two tables. The first half was excellent for us.
We attacked well, Inter suffered, as we did some fantastic work in midfield with Pedro and Gavin. In the second half, we made a lot of mistakes, starting with Inter's first goal, which hurt us psychologically. We also made a mistake in the second goal. We cannot make such blunders in these kinds of meetings.
They are mistakes that pay dearly. We tried to bring out the character, but the calendar was cruel to us. We have to admit that if we don't manage to beat Inter at home, we don't deserve to qualify further.
The qualification no longer depends on us, we do not deserve to advance in this competition. I'm sorry, after we played well in Munich, also in the second half in Milan. The first half here was also excellent, but we made two fatal mistakes and such a thing affects the Champions League a lot.
We are disappointed, upset and sad. We suffered a strong blow, very strong. We must do self-criticism. The season is long, we didn't give our best for our mistakes and that's cruel. Let's focus on El Clasico," declared the Catalan coach.
Barcelona returns to the field on Sunday, October 16. The Catalan team will play against Real Madrid at "Santiago Bernabeu" in the most important meeting of the season in La Liga.
