Al Qaeda's request to Muslims: Do not watch the World
Qatar and Al Qaeda

Al Qaeda has asked Muslims around the world "not to watch the World Cup either in the stadium or from home."

Al Qaeda has criticized the host country, Qatar, for bringing "immoral people, homosexuals, and sowers of atheism" to the region.

In addition, Al Qaeda claims that the World Cup actually serves to divert attention from "invading Muslim countries and oppressing them".

"We warn our Muslim brothers not to attend or participate in this event," said the statement issued last weekend.

Responding to criticism of Qatar's lack of basic freedoms, including LGBT rights, women's rights and social restrictions, World Cup organizers have reported that all people, regardless of gender, sexual orientation or religion, are welcome during the World Cup.

With a population of around 3 million, mostly foreign workers, Qatar claims to have trained more than 50,000 people to provide security during the World Cup. There will also be the help of foreign police forces, under the command of the host country.
