Evra and Ferguson's method: If he trained you today, you would end up in
Ferguson and Evra

Patrice Evra had the opportunity to share his career with that of Sir Alex Ferguson for a full 7 years, from 2006 to 2013, when both contributed to Manchester United's successes in the Premier League.

A long collaboration that, over the years, the former French defender has often recalled, without forgetting the "Ferguson method", which has emerged in many anecdotes and stories that have characterized the fighting spirit of the coach in the locker room. Evra repeats it clearly: "He made many players cry... If he trained today with those methods, he would end up in prison".

In the early 2000s, Patrice Evra was part of Manchester under Alex Ferguson, and during his seven years at the “Red Devils”, the French champion had the opportunity to experience first-hand the “treatment” that the English coach reserved for his players – from training sessions to moments in the dressing room. This gave him the opportunity to get to know first-hand the way Ferguson managed players, often crossing the line, to the point where today he could get into trouble with the law:

"If he was a coach today, Ferguson would probably end up in jail..." - Evra said without gloves on the SDS podcast - "There is no other end. Ferguson would go straight to jail for what he did. He was evil... Do you know how many players I've seen cry because he shouted in their faces? How many people did he throw his shoes at? He was really evil."

Evra recalls Ferguson's nerves: "Who the hell do you think you are?"

Evra brought up two particular episodes, including the famous one involving David Beckham, who was hit in the face by a boot thrown by Ferguson. Another, less well-known but indicative of the manager's explosive nature, occurred in Saudi Arabia, after a friendly loss in which Danny Welbeck missed a penalty:

“Wayne Rooney gave the ball to Welbeck, but he missed from the penalty spot. We lost a 45-minute friendly. When we got back to the dressing room, Ferguson shouted: ‘Welbeck!’ He and I were in the toilet, he was peeing, but Ferguson was shouting. ‘Who the hell do you think you are, coming into the first team and taking the penalty?’ I tried to say: ‘Mister, it’s just a friendly…’ And he said: ‘Friendly to hell!’”

What is the "hair dryer", Ferguson's method with players

Evra's reference to the "hairdryer" is one of the most famous terms used to describe Ferguson's treatment of players. Dubbed the "hairdryer treatment" by the tabloids and the players themselves, it involved moments when Ferguson would shout at players so loudly that it was said to dry their hair with the force of his voice.

"The problem for me was when a player answered me," Ferguson once said. "Then everyone realized it was better not to answer me... My staff would tell me to wait until Monday to speak to the players, but I couldn't wait. On the Saturday after the game, I would tell them exactly what I thought. I would just tell the truth. And the truth works."

And indeed: 38 trophies won in 26 years at the helm of Manchester United, including 13 Premier Leagues, five FA Cups and two Champions Leagues.
