Kylian Mbappe made his long-awaited La Liga debut for Real Madrid in Sunday's game against Mallorca, but it wasn't the triumphant start that fans and himself had hoped for.
The match ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw.
Real Madrid started the game with high hopes, as Rodrygo took the lead just 13 minutes into the game. However, they were unable to maintain their lead.
In the second half, Mallorca's Vedat Muriqi equalized and despite their efforts, Los Blancos could not find a way to secure victory.
Mbappe couldn't score, but how was his performance actually?
In the role of center forward, the Frenchman was no longer dynamic. Previously, he said that he prefers to play on the wing rather than in the middle. He had 13 clear touches in the area and made four shots, with two of them in the box.
Three successful dribbles and 81% passing accuracy, completing 25 out of 31. However, Mbappe's total of 44 touches was the lowest number. This is somewhat expected for a centre-forward, but it still highlights how involved he was in the game.
Despite his efforts, he lost the ball 11 times. By comparison, Vinicius Jr lost possession on 24 occasions during the match.
Mbappe's performance reflected the challenges of adapting to a new position in a new environment.
His usual skill and influence were somewhat subdued.
Real Madrid will be hoping that as he continues to adapt, his impact on matches will become more pronounced and lead to more successful results for the team.
