Tensions between Greece and Turkey in the Aegean and over Cyprus should not escalate, while a clash between two NATO member countries is something the United States cannot allow.

This is what US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in an interview with Greek media, emphasizing that such a scenario would not be in the interest of either party, including the United States.

"They are two NATO allies. To me, it is unimaginable that something like this would happen. It would not be good for anyone and I don't believe it will happen," Rubio said.

Another sensitive issue remains Turkey's return to the F35 fighter jet program, for which Rubio says Ankara has not yet met American legal conditions.

The main obstacle is the Russian S400 air defense system, which Washington has sought solutions for before any F35 transfer.

"Legally we cannot make the transfer until the S-400 issue is resolved. So far, it has not been resolved," Rubio said.

Also asked about the Russia-Ukraine war, the US Secretary of State said that there is currently no diplomatic solution on the horizon that is acceptable to both sides.
