The Council of Ministers approved this Wednesday the decision on compensation for former political prisoners.

The decision has entered into force for former political convicts sentenced to imprisonment, solitary confinement in the investigator, solitary confinement in a medical or psychiatric medical institution, as well as former political convicts sentenced to capital punishment or executed without trial.

DECISION ON THE APPROVAL OF FINANCIAL COMPENSATION FOR FORMER POLITICAL PRISONERS OF THE COMMUNIST REGIME

In support of Article 100 of the Constitution and Articles 9 and 10 of Law No. 9831, dated 12.11.2007, "On the compensation of former political prisoners of the communist regime", amended, with the proposal of the Minister of Justice, the Council of Ministers

DECIDE:

1. The approval of financial compensation for former political convicts sentenced to imprisonment, isolation in the investigator's office, isolation in a medical or psychiatric medical institution, according to the list defined in annex A, which is attached to this decision and is an integral part of it.
2. Approval of financial compensation for former political convicts sentenced to capital punishment or executed without trial, according to the list defined in annex B, which is attached to this decision and is an integral part of it.
3. The distribution of the amount of compensation for former political convicts is done in installments, according to the criteria and limits defined in Article 12 of Law No. 9831, dated 12.11.2007, "On the compensation of former political convicts of the communist regime ”, amended.
4. The calculated amount is transferred to a special account in the Bank of Albania. The payment of compensation for each beneficiary is made by the Ministry of Finance and Economy in their personal accounts, opened in second-level banks, according to the provisions of law no. 9831, dated 12.11.2017, "On the compensation of former political prisoners of the communist regime", amended.
The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Finance and Economy are charged with the implementation of this decision.
This decision enters into force after publication in the "Official Gazette".
