"The Socialist Party will win 48 to 52 municipalities in the May 14 elections." This is what the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said about the claims of the SP regarding the municipal elections.
Speaking on Report TV, Veliaj emphasized the importance of cooperation between local and central governments.
"I believe that a very big victory at the national level would be something around 50 municipalities. I predict 48-52 municipalities. It is a way to move forward, to treat the municipality as an ally of the government. A mayor is interested in cooperation with the government. When with the government we made half of the ring and now we are making the other half from "Eagle" in the direction of Tufina, a mayor does not care about the municipality as a sledgehammer against the government, but as an instrument to cooperate with the government and finish it as soon as possible faster this work. In this sense, the municipalities that will vote for the SP will guarantee cooperation with the government of Edi Rama, this is little, but certain", he said.
Veliaj underlined that a municipality that refuses cooperation and that treats the mandate of the municipality as a weapon against the government of Edi Rama, makes a fatal mistake.
"Most people want as much cooperation as possible to move things forward. About the District of Tirana, if you had asked me a month ago, I would not have been so sure, because Tirana, apart from the main municipality, in the rest has been mainly directed from the right. So, Vora has been a right bastion for over 20 years, Kamza for 30 years, Kavaja as well, with some short interruptions, Rrogozhina once here, once there. Today I can say that we have a chance in all 5 municipalities and the polls show us in the lead. But I believe that the real poll is on May 14, so the accountability requirement for each of the colleagues who run the campaign is that we must work every day as if we depend on 1 vote, treat people with respect, with humility ,emphasized Veliaj.
