The Socialists do not seem to take the process of electing the President seriously, giving this process ridiculous marks.
Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated earlier that the candidate for president of the Republic will not be in the ranks of the SP parliamentary group nor an active politician.
But the socialist MP Arben Pëllumbi does not think so. He says that at this stage of the process, the new President can be found even within the ranks of the socialist parliamentary group.
Invited to Report tv, Pëllumbi says that the condition set by Rama was set because the opposition was part of the discussion table, but now that the DP has burned three rounds, the majority has the right to impose a condition that is in line with The Constitution.
"What will happen is that we will return to the process we started. So we started by collecting names from the Parliamentary Group and the citizens via email. We will start the process again within ourselves to find concrete names. Of course the most important part will take place in the Socialist Parliamentary Group.
We will surely have a meeting of the SP Presidency and then the Conference of Presidents will decide on the next round. Each of us is free to discuss and propose to the Group and the Presidency that will also give the final verdict.
Within the Socialist deputies there have been different attitudes regarding the condition that the candidate should not be one of the deputies. This condition was set since the opposition was invited to the conversation and we did not want the majority to be prejudiced as if it would elect one of the deputies. I think now every opportunity opens up. However, the opposition can still propose in the fourth round, it is enough to propose 20 signatures of MPs ", said Arben Pëllumbi.
