Albania will be among the 15 countries that will sit on the Human Rights Council at the UN.
This is an opportunity that is given to our country for the second time. After the news was given yesterday, Prime Minister Edi Rama wrote on his Facebook that the country is taking on another international role.
" Albania sits on the UN Human Rights Council. Yesterday, 123 member countries of the UN General Assembly voted FOR ALBANIA as one of the 15 countries that will sit in the HRC from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2026. The 15 new members of the HRC: Albania, Brazil, Bulgaria, Burundi, China, Ivory Coast, Cuba, Dominican Republic, France, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, Malawi and the Netherlands ," writes the head of government.
We recall that the US Embassy in Albania gave this message on Tuesday: Congratulations to Albania for being elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council! Albania has been a principled voice in the UN Security Council and its election to the Human Rights Council is another opportunity to raise the voice for the most vulnerable around the world. We are proud to stand by Albania in advancing human dignity and justice around the world.
