Prime Minister Edi Rama held an emergency meeting on Thursday morning at the Vlora Municipality premises.
Present at this closed-door meeting were the Mayor, Ermal Dredha, heads of local directorates, current MPs and those elected from the May 11 elections.
The meeting lasted about 90 minutes and was characterized by harsh tones and direct demands from the Prime Minister. According to sources from the meeting, Rama demanded the immediate dismissal of all directors of the Vlora Municipality.
"From this moment on, you are all dismissed. The Mayor must immediately sign the dismissals ," Rama is reported to have declared.
He also emphasized that all local leaders must be fully prepared to solve citizens' problems and urgently address issues that concern the city.
This strong reaction by the Prime Minister comes at a time when Vlora is facing a series of unresolved problems by the relevant structures, while citizen dissatisfaction with the way the local administration functions has increased significantly.
It is not yet known who the replacements for the current directors will be, but new developments and appointments in the city administration are expected in the coming days.
After the meeting, Rama was seen walking in the "Muradie" neighborhood, accompanied by Arbjan Mazniku, Pirro Vengu and Sinan Idrizi. They stopped for about 30 minutes at a coffee shop, before the Prime Minister left the city.
Meanwhile, the candidate for deputy who did not enter the winning lists, Klevis Kaso, was appointed chairman of the Socialist Party in Vlora. Deputy Eriona Ismaili will now be co-chair of this political force. The appointments were announced today during a visit to Vlora by the chairman of the Socialist Party, Edi Rama.
