Chief socialist Edi Rama has responded to voices criticizing him for his stance on the arrest of his 'confidants' in the ranks of the government cabinet and the Socialist Party. In his speech, Rama states that the SP cannot become the shield of those who betray his trust and the citizens.
"Listen to me, there are very few socialists who say Rama lets you go, Rama does not protect you. I have a moral responsibility. My moral responsibility is neither to blush nor to apologize and even less to back down, because only together can we climb Albania to the top where Albanians deserve it. When power and money take over his mind, he betrays not only my trust and yours, but also the Albanian flag! If one used the SP flag as a mask to steal from others, I wanted to use it as toilet paper to wipe away the dirt of corruption! No no no! My moral responsibility is to leave no stone unturned so that justice in Albania has the freedom and independence it needs to punish any cliche of that old political type. Not that I have no other feeling than disgust when I hear, not that he protected not let go,he said.
According to him, justice must do its job, while those who face it are alone. Rama adds that the corrupt have used the party to steal the sweat of the citizens, but the flag of this political force cannot serve to protect them.
"My debt to this party and the people who believe in us and support us is to never put you in a difficult position by asking for inappropriate things," said Rama to his cabinet.
