Costas Simitis, the former prime minister of Greece and architect of the country's unification with the single European currency, the euro, has died today at the age of 88.
Among the many personalities who reacted to the loss of the former Greek Prime Minister was former Albanian Foreign Minister, Paskal Milo.
Milo considers Simitis a precious friend of the Albanian people.
"He did more than any other Greek prime minister in contemporary history to develop and strengthen relations with Albania," Milo emphasizes.
"Today Greece and Greek politics lost a very distinguished personality of theirs, Costas Simitis, former Prime Minister, one of the founders and former chairman of PASOK. He was the model of political wisdom and the politician who led Greece in its modernization."
"Kostas Simitis was a valued friend of the Albanian people. He did more than any other Greek prime minister in modern history to develop and strengthen relations with Albania. He showed solidarity with the right of Kosovo Albanians to decide for themselves about their future and came to the aid of thousands of them who were forcibly displaced to Albania during the 1998-1999 conflict," writes Paskal Milo.
