"It is not us slowly, but the EU", Rama: The process as a pill against
Edi Rama

As an anti-depressant pill. This is how Prime Minister Edi Rama described Albania's long journey since receiving the status of EU candidate country.

In an interview given to France 24, a day after the EU Summit, Rama stressed that Albania is not slow with progress, but the EU has slowed down a lot towards its future.

French media write that Rama has become more and more frustrated by the lack of progress for his country's EU membership process: first by threatening not to come to the meeting, then by announcing that the process was being "hijacked" from the Bulgarian veto on the accession process of his country and Northern Macedonia.

Albania has the status of EU candidate since 2014. The Prime Minister said that "it is not that Albania has made slow progress towards the EU, but that the EU has slowed down a lot towards its future"; however, he says he is no longer "frustrated", but rather saddened by the EU 's failure to "fulfill the promise made to Albania and northern Macedonia".

Rama went on to describe EU candidate status as "a kind of anti-depressant pill to boost the morale of countries", but said he felt "right to recognize Ukrainians as a nation doing a lot for us, how they prevent "advancing the most formidable counter-reform in the world that Putin wants to impose."
