Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis have signed two important agreements in the fields of energy and rail transport.

"Greece will invest over 400 million euros in its railway network, while Italy will contribute 360 ​​million euros to purchase new trains and build new stations," Mitsotakis said.

On the energy front, Mitsotakis stressed the ambition to triple the electricity interconnection capacity between the two countries and said that Greece is an electricity exporting country.

During the meeting, they also spoke about the Western Balkans, emphasizing that they support the path to EU membership, a commitment they will repeat during the two-day summit of the European Political Community to be held in Tirana.

"Italy and Greece share the path of the Western Balkans' accession to Europe as a common commitment that we will reiterate in the coming days at the summit of the European Political Community planned in Tirana," said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in press statements following the Italy-Greece intergovernmental meeting.
