Halit Valteri: There are people who are invested in Veliaj staying in prison.

Socialist member of the Tirana Municipal Council, Halit Valteri, argued that Erion Veliaj should be released from detention, as according to him, the investigations have been closed for about a year and there is no longer any possibility for the mayor to interfere with the evidence.

In the "Shqipëria Live" studio, Valteri raised questions about the reasons for the continuation of Veliaj's prison sentence.

"It's been a year since the investigation was closed. What evidence would be destroyed this year since the investigation was closed? What makes one prosecutor persecute another?" Valteri declared.

He also made a comparison with cases of people accused of serious crimes, claiming that Veliaj was treated with a different standard.

"The criminal accused of 4-5 murders ran away, while 30 police officers were brought into the operating room for Veliaj. So, there are people who are invested in Veliaj staying in prison ," said Valteri.

Valteri finally referred to the Constitutional Court's decision, saying that his failure to reflect on the continuation of the case would be, according to him, a blow to justice.

"The end of justice would be if tomorrow the recommendation of the Constitutional Court that says Tirana needs a mayor were not implemented ," said Valteri.

The rest of his argument he linked to the state of the capital and the functioning of the municipal administration. According to Valter, Veliaj's absence is reflected in cleaning, road maintenance and investment decision-making.

"Today Tirana is dirtier, without roads, the Roads Directorate is asleep. The Tirana Cleaning Directorate is the most failed. The municipal administration has zero communication with the council because those who were fired worked for their own interests and not those of the citizens."

Directors without identity, without contribution points who were not known in the community. They were appointed to approve the budget. Who would lead them, Anuela? If you are a cork, you have no way of leading a council meeting. That is why I say that if Veliaj does not return, the citizens who voted for him have been affected.

It takes courage to make decisions, who will make the decision to invest, for example in the Kashari area, where we only have 30 minutes of water. And as long as there is no one to make the decision, it cannot be done. The director of the water supply, with all the respect I have for him, cannot make this decision alone.

"On the way to Top Channel, the cars act as if you are in the jungle, not in Tirana, you have seen it yourself. As long as we have corrupt and incompetent people who have deserted their jobs in the municipality, we must definitely have a strong hand to remove them ," Valteri concluded.
