From Dibra, in a conversation with the citizens, the head of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha said this Tuesday that in 8 years, more than 744 thousand citizens left Albania.

"After we came out of the communist dictatorship, 32 years later, the danger rests on us again like the 'Sword of Damocles'. Are we in danger today or are we exaggerating by announcing such a thing? Is Albania in danger? Is Dibra in danger? Or is it an exaggeration? Let's refer to the facts. A nation that is rapidly losing its inhabitants, its members is in danger and great danger everywhere. In these 8 years, no other nation has lost its members as much as we Albanians have. This is from 2014 until today, with reliable EU statistics, 744,417 Albanians have left Albania in the EU area alone. Without counting how many have gone to other countries of the world. I'll give you another example. Greece after World War II fell into civil war. There is nothing worse for a nation, 1 million Greeks left. Whereas we have left 26-27% of the inhabitants from Albania for 8 years. We are in great trouble, in desolation, the youth, the children, the future are disappearing".

For Berisha, Albanians run away from poverty, while the government and oligarchs get rich.

"If there is one thing that crushes people, it is poverty that gathers people, it is poverty that drives people away from the country. Why are we at risk? We do not live in a country without reservations. We live in a country with great reserves, but the riches of this country have turned into a curse for us. Instead of enriching the citizens, they enrich the governors. You can rarely find another country that has the assets that we have. But we fall rapidly in salaries and pensions because this government uses those assets with its oligarchs, who enrich the government, but make the citizens miserable".
