The former leader of the DP and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lulzim Basha, gave an interview this afternoon for the show "Zona Zero" on Top Neës, returning after more than a year to the media.
Basha spoke on the Independence Day of Kosovo about what happened 15 years ago and about his contribution to this historic event. The former democratic leader stated that apart from the declaration of Kosovo's Independence, special moments for him were also the meetings with the American secretary where he discussed in detail.
"The most special moment was the first contact with the secretary of the United States, who was in charge of the independence of Kosovo, where we met and discussed in detail and culminated with the date of the declaration of independence. Albania's role was special and I felt a double privilege. The second moment was the declaration of independence. I also took to the country the legacy of my grandparents who fled in a difficult time. But we carried to the end the trust of those who sacrificed for freedom. It took three generations, but they managed to build a western, democratic society. He gave lectures on democracy and Albania. To express our gratitude for what has been achieved so far, we are proud of what our brothers and sisters in Kosovo have achieved." - declared Basha.
Asked by journalist Thimi Samarxhi about the accusations leveled against him for involvement in organ trafficking during the war, and the investigations into the "Yellow House" case, Basha stated that they were all malicious accusations against him, which then turned out to be untrue.
"Look, nothing undoes the sense of privilege and pride I have for contributing to Kosovo's independence and more so in the group that investigated Serbia's crimes in Kosovo.
While unfortunately in Albania there is an evil mechanism in function of an evil, dark interest. The fight against me is not limited to the McGonigal scandal. But also with other attacks that intensify on the eve of the elections. Mr. Gubi in the investigation of the Yellow House in Mat, or even Mr. Dash Peza dismantled the banal slander against me. All these accusations have been dropped and turned out to be untrue." - said Basha.
Furthermore, he explained the reasons why on the day of the declaration of Kosovo's Independence, no Albanian official was there and why Albania was not the first country to recognize its independence.
"The Franco-German plan is the golden way for Serbia to liberate itself. There is no other way, the only question is how soon it will be realized. The Franco-German plan is to free Serbia from this nightmare and on the other hand pave the way for Kosovo to join NATO and the EU." - said Basha.
